“Thank you for calling United Healthcare. Por blah blah blah Espanol, blah blah tres.”
You can’t even say “For English press 1. Por espanol tres”?
Are you upset that there are people that speak other languages than English?
Nope. I just think that since this is America and our de facto language is English, that we should put that first.
There is no “ours.”
I don’t like the fact that people come here illegally and then we bend to their needs when they should bend to ours.
You’re United Healthcare?
Because you don’t see me needing a phone option for Italian. You don’t see me needing a phone option for Slovak. You don’t see me needing a phone option for Gaelic. You don’t see me needing a phone option for Serbian. Of course, my people came here legally. And had to take those physical and medical exams to gain entry.
So businesses should only cater to their customers based on nationality?
Also, we don’t see other immigrants being appeased. There is no Arabic/Persian option. There is no Russian option. There are TONS of Vietnamese people in my area and there isn’t a Vietnamese option for them.
They don’t have a big enough presence in the market.
Why don’t you go to a south of the border country and try to get them to use English on government forms and their phone answering systems. Go see if they’ll do that in the Middle East. Go see if they’ll do that in Ukraine. Go see if they do that in Vietnam.
Ever been to Cancun?
But why should we expect people who break our laws by coming here illegally to learn our language and speak it to us.
1. Yes there is.
2. No, but it is an American company and we are paying for it. We as in the consumer.
3. Not about nationality. It’s pretty much about a unified national American community and being able to communicate with everyone. We cannot communicate if the people who come here don’t bother to learn our language. We learn theirs in school. They should attempt to learn ours if they live here.
4. Yes they do have enough of a presence. And the very large majority of them are here legally.
5. Cancun is a resort town. So yea, lots of the businesses there do have knowledge of English.
But so do the people at Disney World. They know alllllllll sorts of languages.
But that doesn’t mean the people in some random place in Minnesota or Montana can speak Spanish just like the people in some random town in Mexico can speak English.
