First: Here I was thinking it meant “pure.”

Apparently, the etymology is debated. It could mean “each of the two,” it could stem from Hecate (which might mean “far off”) or mean “torture” (my personal favorite meaning), as well as “my consecration of your name” (whatever the hell that means), in addition to “pure.”

So….we’re going with “torture.”

Middle: English girl/French boy version of John “Yahweh is gracious”

Last: “strong, vigorous, healthy.” Applies to both my ancestral name and the one they Americanized when they got off the boat.
